Why College Essay is Important

Why College Essay is ImportantThe title of this essay should tell you how important an essay on your college application is. Second, it needs to show that you have the ability to structure your thoughts and ideas in a manner that will make your reader want to read more. How many of us out there have been told that we have a student who is not writing on time? It is a common saying to pass on a student with poor writing skills. Yet, even though a student might not be putting his or her thoughts down on paper, he or she could still be an excellent writer. It's easy to learn from someone else's mistakes. It's hard to learn from others successes.Your answer to the question why college essay is the ability to read and absorb ideas from other people. If you can't read on your own, then you don't have the ability to really learn. You need to learn to read and absorb ideas from others. You must learn to write without spelling errors. Immigrant Story Essay Sample

Immigrant Story Essay SampleAn immigrant story can teach us a lot about our history and the impact of immigration in our country. It can also provide us with insight into our future and the issues that we face as a nation.Writing a history is much like writing a novel. There are many different ways to tell a story, and some stories make for better novels than others. To learn more about our history and how the past impacts our future, consider taking a few short essays of your own, and turn them into a novel.Consider telling a story about a bus trip down the Mississippi River from New Orleans to New York. Have your immigrant friends read the story to you and then let them help you develop the plot. After that, you could turn the story into a novel. You could also use your story to teach history. Tell the story of an undocumented immigrant, or someone who came here through the war. Let your students look at how the immigrant experience changed the country, and how the immigrant experie nce has changed the American way of life. Use this story to get their point of view across, and use it to give them a sense of what immigrants meant to America.Immigrant stories can be used in a number of ways. Perhaps you will use them to teach about President Obama's immigration policies. Or maybe you can use them to explain the importance of education, or how the labor market is changing.Or maybe you can use your immigrant stories, to ask questions about American history. Perhaps you will have your students write a historical novel, and put their own immigrant story onto the pages. Then, discuss their story with your class and get them to think about how the immigrant experience affected the American society today. And if they succeed, perhaps you can even do a class project or a writing exercise where you compare their immigrant story to a fictional one that takes place in a parallel society. In addition to these essays, there are many other stories of immigrants that can be told , and if you decide to use them, consider working with a native speaker of English. If you can't find someone native to the United States, consider hiring a bilingual tutor to teach English. At the very least, you should use a native speaker to help you adapt the writing to make it easy for native English speakers to read.

First Person Narrative in Red Sky at Morning by Richard...

First Person Narrative in Red Sky at Morning by Richard Bradford The author, Richard Bradford, uses first person narrative in his novel Red Sky at Morning. His story unfolds through the eyes of Josh Arnold, the strong-willed, independent son of Frank Arnold, a respected and wealthy man in Sagrado, New Mexico during the times of World War II. When Josh was two he began to become immune to things like Indian fire and ringworm which was the primary cause for their summerhouse in Sagrado. The Arnolds moved from Mobile, Alamabama during the War to live year long in Sagrado when Frank had a conviction to serve his time in the U.S. Navy. Once there, Josh met Steenie, a role model, protector, and social educator to Josh. Steenie taught†¦show more content†¦The distinct ethinic differences in Sagrado influenced the perception and actions of Josh as he grew to understand the cultures and their people. Religion was an issue that continued to surface in the Arnolds home, portraying peoples intolerance and primarily ignorance towards others beliefs. We see this in Mrs. Arnolds dislike of Catholics. She makes her unhappiness strongly known by saying that one of the reasons she dislikes Sagrado is that The town was full of Catholics.(24) Another example of religious predjudices is when they lived in Mobile, Alabama. Mrs. Arnold asks her colored maid to sing Negro spirituals for a business associate who loved listening to that kind of music. Although Lacy (the maid) was Catholic and knew none of these Southern classics, Mrs. Arnold told her Lacey, dont be silly. All of your#8230;everybody knows those songs. Theyre traditional.(8) Lacey always sang the songs Mrs. Arnold wanted her to, but later told Josh she felt bad singing protestant songs and always attended confession to rid her guilt. Lacey no longer had to deal with this internal conflict once the Arnolds moved, and Mrs. Arnold wa s forced to accept the influnece of different religions on her son Josh. Regional attitudes strongly affected the people of Sagrado, causing them to fear the hostile reception of surrounding communities. Creating Shared Value free essay sample

The kind of shared value that will generate enduring economic benefits for the company when at the same time adding momentous value to society by addressing its basic needs and challenges. The authors rationalized this idea by pointing out the fact that business society have grown further apart, tangled up in misconceptions such as business as the cause of many societal problems, especially environmental economic. In the same way, business believes providing societal benefits will hurt their bottom line. In fact the real problem resides in the fact that business has long been locked in with an outdated and narrow concept of value creation; the ones that mainly focus on profits and short term performance over the long term outlook. Their major mistake is to overlook all other contributing factors such as their customers’ needs, the depletion of the resources they use or the reliability of the supply chain they use, etc, that could help ensure their financial success and strengthen their corporate image. We will write a custom essay sample on Creating Shared Value or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The authors note that companies are still trapped with the notion of â€Å"social responsibility† but they don’t address societal issues as the core element. Kramer Porter stress that share value is totally different than philanthropy or social responsibility; rather it is new way to achieve economic success and that capitalism is the greatest mean for companies to accomplish the above purpose by meeting human needs, attaining efficiency and creating jobs. The authors suggest capitalism and corporations’ role be redefined to help harness businesses’ full potential of meeting society’s broad challenges. They believe this will drive the next wave of innovation and productivity growth in the global economy. The authors moved on to define the roots of shared value which they state are closely interwined between the competitiveness of a company and the community around it. The idea is that when a business succeeds, it should positively affect its immediate community; they depend on each other to prosper. For example; a successful business creates jobs, wealth and opportunities for the surrounding area residents. In the same way, business needs residents to have income to spend on their goods or have the required training/education to work for the company. According to the authors, many big corporations have already embraced this new concept of creating shared value and are ripping its benefits along the way while helping distant societies to prosper in their own way and at their own pace but enduring. First of all, I thought this article is very well written and very easy to read, filled with many convincing evidence to support their presented arguments. This subject caught my interest right away because for the longest time I believe big corporations not only have the means but also the duty to give back to society where it conducts its business. I have watched documentaries showing big corporations operating their businesses in third world countries where environmental regulations are nearly non-existent, took advantage of this void by polluting nearby local ocean shores and river streams (mostly in Africa, with corporations such as Coca Cola, Nestle or big gas companies), leaving behind nothing but desolation. And these are companies that would swear by their commitment to social responsibility environment initiatives. This is probably the reason society often puts the blame on corporations for their problems, just as mentioned by the authors. I believe capitalism has lost some of its splendor and from the action of few bad apples. I don’t think capitalism is bad if carried out in the most responsible fashion and with a noble purpose. I’m in total agreement with the authors about society and business competitiveness being closely interwined.

SWOT Analysis This is a management tool used by organizations to make decisions through assessment of organizational structure and corporate culture. It entails identifying internal strengths and weaknesses of an organization, as well as external opportunities and threats. The cardinal focus of applying SWOT analysis in an organization is to build on strengths, do away with weaknesses, take hold of available opportunities, and respond to possible threats. Google has several internal strengths and weaknesses, as well as opportunities and threats from the external environment. Strengths A strength that has enhanced Google’s fast growth is an effective market strategy. The market strategy applied by Google entails innovation, a large portfolio of products, broad market coverage, and effective marketing. Google has created a global customer base covering various types of customers of varied age, social and economic class, as well as political and religious affiliations.Advertising Looking for case study on business economics? Google has demonstrated strong ability to create a cohesive and inclusive work environment that helps maintain high employee morale. They have effective employee motivation and retention strategies that include good remuneration packages and workplace benefits. The third strength is effective change management strategies. Innovation creates need for regular change implementation at Google, and it has effectively managed to introduce without compromising its corporate culture. Other notable strengths of Google include effective leadership and management strategies, financial stability, customer goodwill, and a strong corporate culture. Weaknesses The first weakness is poor recruitment strategies. The human resource department at Google receives numerous applications from potential employees from various parts of the world. Google ignores these applications because its owners prefer to hire graduates from S tanford University, their alma mater. This strategy locks out very qualified and competent individuals who could bring a new dimension into Google’s way of conducting business. The second weakness is poor implementation of employee retention strategies. Although the company has developed strategies for reducing employee turnover, poor implementation has forced some top managers to leave and join their competitors. When employees leave and join a competitor, the competitor most likely counters their efforts in the market. The third weakness is unreliable partnerships. Google formed numerous partnerships with many companies in a bid to increase its market share. Some of these partnerships failed to fulfill their desired potential, leading to poor management of some portfolios. Opportunities The outside environment offers Google numerous opportunities that can be exploited to improve stability in the market. The first opportunity is to integrate its services with computer softwa re in order to attract more users. This means that Google can form partnerships with computer software developers like Microsoft to have their products integrated during production. Google plans to launch an operating system called chrome that will enable it compete effectively with companies such as Microsoft. Although it will be challenging to convince people to try out a new operating system for their personal computers, Google can look up to its operating system for smart phones that has been a huge success. This will motivate them to go ahead with the launch. The operating system is cost effective, reliable and its usability suits needs of many internet users. This is an opportunity Google can exploit and stamp its control of the internet service market. Other opportunities include expansion of global market presence, integration of research and development skill in its activities, as well as development of new business partnerships for growth of its brand. Threats The first th reat is Google’s inability to provide enough motivation to part time employees who work on various projects. Many of these employees do not receive allowances and this might derail their human resource development strategies. The second threat is court battles instigated by its major competitors. Yahoo, Amazon, and Microsoft among other companies have filed a case to stop Google from digitizing and getting exclusive rights for the concept of online advertising. The third threat faced by Google is the dynamic nature of competition in the industry. There is need for increased innovation to ensure that the company does not lose its market leadership to emerging competitors. Recommendations Google needs to apply certain approaches to ensure that it makes the best out of its strengths, do away with weaknesses, seize available opportunities, and eliminate all threats from the external environment. The first recommendation is need for Google to further reflect on its mission stateme nt and develop it. It is important for Google to know that all their competitors are seeking to provide the best services on the market. Thus, it needs to rethink how it can maintain its market leadership. The second recommendation is that Google needs to reorient its organizational structure and culture to promote development of its brand. Google needs to develop effective strategies for change management, which is an effective tool for organizational success. Thirdly, Google needs to revise its recruitment strategy to include graduates from other institutions who can provide an extra dimension to its organizational development. Google currently applies a strategy that its founders started, of picking their employees from Stanford University, as they believe its graduates have the essential competencies. Maintaining market leadership is a function of human resource management that involves applying effective recruitment strategies. Employee recruitment entails developing an attract ive remuneration and benefits package for all workers. This helps to reduce employee turnover because they will be satisfied and motivated to work.
